Early Morning Airport Observations December 23, 2008

• Thank you, Peet’s Coffee, for opening at 5 am
• Lots of people are on the phone at 4:30 in the morning. WTF? Even if you’re calling the east coast that’s pretty early. Hang up. You’re not that important.
• Hippie dude playing the ukulele in the gate area. Wish I was joking. Turns out he’s the patriarch of a stressed out and shrill hippie family with a daughter named Bronwyn, of course.
• Applying makeup at 35,000 feet isn’t as easy as it sounds. Predictably, the turbulence started as we got to the mascara.
